The worms

When discussing worms that play a crucial role in composting, the European nightcrawler (Eisenia hortensis) and the red wigglers (Eisenia fetida) stand out due to their unique attributes. The European nightcrawler is notable for its significant size and its capacity to thrive in cooler climates, making it an excellent choice for outdoor composting activities. These worms not only aerate the soil efficiently but also break down organic materials thoroughly, enriching compost with essential nutrients.

On the other hand, Eisenia fetida, widely recognized as red wigglers, are particularly suited for indoor vermiculture. They adapt quickly to high-density environments and consume organic waste at an impressive rate, resulting in highly effective compost production. Their relentless appetite yields nutrient-rich vermicompost, making it perfect for fostering healthy plant growth.

Collectively, these two worm species form a robust foundation for productive composting and sustainable gardening practices, benefiting both outdoor gardening aficionados and indoor composting supporters. With their help, we are currently producing up to 4 tonnes of high-quality compost each year.
